Information for Members:
Performances
|
- Extra rehearsals:
We may hold extra rehearsals prior to a performance, but whenever
possible, the dress rehearsal will take place at the concert venue on a
Tuesday night. Depending on the venue, it is sometimes necessary
to hold a dress rehearsal the day of the concert. Dates and
times will be announced well in advance by the conductor, and will be
posted on this web site on the schedule
page. All members who are planning to sing MUST
attend.
|
- Missed
performances: All
performances should be considered mandatory - you should not sign up to
sing in the choir if you do not plan to participate in all our events.
Exceptions may be made on an individual basis - please talk to your
section representative.
|
- Performance
etiquette: During dress rehearsals and performances members
are reminded that there is zero tolerance for on-stage talking.
Please avoid calling out comments, waving to audience members etc.
Please note that foot-tapping while on stage is not acceptable, as the
sound will be picked up by the acoustics in the venue, and will be
clearly audible to the audience.

- Performance
dress requirements - Women: Upon
joining Malaspina Choir you will need to purchase a two-piece choir
outfit (top and bottom); the cost of this outfit is $73 new. If
you are purchasing a second-hand outfit (owned only by 1 other member
and depending on how often it was used), cost will then be $50.
When a member leaves the choir and would like to
sell the outfit back to the choir, the outfit must be dry-cleaned and
returned in a dry cleaning plastic bag.
If the outfit is in good shape when returned to
the choir, the outgoing member will then receive $50 as a refund.
The outfit is made out of acetate and polyester
material and CANNOT be handwashed, it will shrink.
From time to time some concerts might require
some different accessories to the outfit, like a scarf or
different jewellery…when this happens, the Wardrobe committee will
give them out before concert time and will collect them after each
concert. The ladies are required to have small stud-like earrings; no
necklaces preferably, but if you like to wear one then a very delicate
chain is appropriate. Black shoes and black pantyhose. No
knee highs (the slit on the skirt is too high, therefore they can be
seen) The shoes cannot be Birkenstocks (sp) if you need to wear
Birkenstocks, then they should be black.

- Concert Folders:
Members are required to use a black
folder to hold their music during concerts. If you do not
already own an appropriate folder, it can be purchased through the
choir, and a bulk purchase is usually made once each season. A
few are available to borrow from the choir if you are a short-term
member or have trouble purchasing one. Please contact your
section representative for
details, or to find out if the folder you already own will suffice.
