Kick off the next choral season with an infusion of music basics!

This workshop is for anyone who wants to read music better! It will focus on all the basics about music notation and how to read it. It is open to anyone who is interested. There is no prerequisite for prior music-reading experience or knowledge.

    The following music basics will be addressed:
  • Notation:
  • Basic notation: staffs, notes, bass/treble clefs, leger lines
  • Chromatic and major scales
  • Key signatures: What are they? Why are they what they are? How does knowing about them help with reading music?
  • Intervals in the scaleo
  • Accidentals
  • Minor keys
  • Practice exercises
    The following music basics will be addressed:
  • Note valueso
  • Time signatures
  • Tempo markings
  • Rest values
  • Practice exercises
    The following music basics will be addressed:
  • Simple methods for helping you navigate a piece of music
